Introducing Fine Art Photographer

J. Keith Davies

I was born in North Wales, United Kingdom, and I was raised in a small village in Flintshire. Together with my wife Ann, I moved to Vancouver Island, Canada, in 1998 where I currently live and work as a professional photographer.

My interest in photography began at the age of four, inspired by a local photographer in that small Welsh village - George Jones - and later by my school headmaster, who was also a serious photographer.

Having been so inspired, I first used to steal my older brothers ‘Brownie 127’ camera while he was at work, and although I had no film, as far as I was concerned, I was a photographer capturing scenes in that small Welsh village, sneaking it back into my brother's bedroom at the end of the day before he returned from work.

In 1994, I gained my Licentiateship qualification with the British Institute of Professional Photography, and a year later, a Licentiateship qualification with the Master Photographers’ Association, having studied photography with both Fuji and Kodak. Prior to our move to Canada, my wife and I ran our own photography studio close to that same Welsh village specializing in weddings, portraiture, and landscape work.

Photographers from whom I have gained much inspiration over the years are: Ansel Adams, Edward Curtis, Don McCullen, Charlie Waite and contemporary American landscape photographer Alain Briot, amongst others. This is probably the reason why my main focus is now landscape photography.
